Project description
Conduct a comparison between the Apple iPhone 5s & Samsung Galaxy S 4 smart phones by utilizing the attached instructions.

The assignment requires both a basic Excel spreadsheet with two charts (i.e., comparing the two models) & a three-page Word document (i.e., explaining carefully and specifically the rationale for your choice and weighting of criteria, and what the outcome of your evaluation is — why you selected the particular model you chose.

Create an Excel workbook which contains information to be used to make a decision for purchasing a personal computer

(or smart phone, e-reader, etc.). Indicate
a maximum price ycm are willing to pm
(be realistic, given your own budget)
and examine computer configurations reasonably close to this amount.

Identify at least
6 criteria of your choice based on your own preferences
(e.g., clock speed, DVD drive,
monitor, RAM, printer, hard drive, footprint, weight, anti-virus software, service agreement, etc.) on which to
base your decision (you might have different features for a smart phone).

Each
criterion must be assigned a weight
(e.g., 10%, analogous to the way assignments are weighted in a
grade book). The criterion weights should total 100%.

Identify at least
2 actual models
(from different vendors) to evaluate and compare using the criteria. At least
one of the models must be marketed online (e.g., Dell, HP, Apple).

Include in your spreadsheet a brief description of the product feature or features associated with each
criterion you examine. (e.g, for monitor might add: 17-inch LCD flat panel)

Break down the price of each computer, with pricing elements (e.g., price of monitor) grouped with
criteria when possible (include at least two upgrades or downgrades from the standard model)

Each computer should receive a numerical score (e.g., 7 on a scale of 10) on each criterion.

Each computer model should have a
total score, based on the weighted criterion scores.

Separate weights from criterion scores, so that it is easy to alter weights.
(Use Absolute Cell Referencing
for
the weights included in the formula that determines each computer’s total score.)

The worksheet should also display the average score for each individual criterion.

When possible, have the spreadsheet perform calculations — e.g., totaling percentages.

Create
at least two charts
(at least two different types — e.g., pie chart and column chart) and explain what each
chart represents.

Charts should have titles, legends, and, where appropriate, axis labels.
o
Charts should effectively illuminate the worksheet and your criteria.
o
At least one chart should be on a separate worksheet.

The worksheets in the workbook should have appropriate names on the sheet tabs.

The worksheet should be nicely formatted with color, different fonts and point sizes, borders, etc.

Worksheet numbers should be properly formatted to represent the type of data being displayed (currency,
percentages, quantities, etc.)
Create a Word Document: a 3+ page written report — title page plus at least two and one half pages of content (12-point
font, double spaced, 1″ top and bottom margins and 1″ left and right margins). In the report explain carefully and
specifically the rationale for your choice and weighting of criteria (apart from individual models examined), and what the
outcome of your evaluation is — why you selected the particular model you chose.

Include one chart (no more than ‘A page in size) in the body of your report.

If you elect to include a second chart in the report, your report should be proportionately longer.

The chart(s) should be pasted to the Word document from the Excel file.

Reference the Web page(s) of the product or products you examine on line in a Works Cited (MLA style) or
References (APA Style) page. The reference should include a hyperlink path to the particular product model,
which allows lets the recipient of your Word file to access the Web page.
When you are finished, your project should include an Excel workbook with one data sheet and at least one chart sheet.
It should also contain a word document that includes information from your workbook, as well as a chart which is pasted
from the workbook.
Submit the Excel File and Word File to the Blackboard posting of the project assignment by 11:59 pm, Wednesday,
February 26, 2014. Also hand in a printed copy of each file at the beginning of class, Thursday, February 27, 2014.
Each spreadsheet should be printed landscape style, centered horizontally and vertically, with gridlines, appropriate
headers and footers including your name and the project, and fitted to one page.

Report 30% (10%: rationale for criteria; 10%: how well each model satisfies criteria; 10%: style , formatting)
