Peter at Novatech is now recruiting a Project Manager and Erik Larsen has applied for the role. As part of the assessment process, he has completed the three Elements ability tests: Verbal, Numerical and Logical. He has also been interviewed by Peter who appears to have been very impressed by Peter’s confidence in dealing with complex figures and his experience in data analysis.

In terms of competencies, Peter rated him 4 out of 5 on Project Management, 3 out of 5 on Teamwork, 3 out of 5 on Cultural Sensitivity, 4 out of 5 on Planning and Organising and 5 out of 5 on Commercial Awareness.

a)    Review the job description and person specification for the role and Erik’s Elements report.
b)    Write Erik a candidate feedback report, outlining his test scores and their impact on his suitability for the role. Remember to take into account the requirements of the role and the feedback you have had from Peter.
c)    Separate to this feedback, identify what other kinds of roles you think Erik may be appropriate for but also what kind of additional information you would need to support your hypotheses.

Job Description and Person Specification: Senior Project Manager

A. Purpose of Role

Management of complex, cross-functional IT implementation projects delivering initiatives for clients, with positive impact on revenue and operating costs. Main focus areas are end-to-end business process improvement and customer experience improvement.

B. Responsibilities

•    Manage IT implementation Projects from inception to deployment, working across multiple functions and countries in EMEA. Typically 3-6 months in duration
•    Apply formal project methodology to ensure effective control and successful delivery within agreed timelines
•    Deliver project plans, updates and reports on progress as required by Project Boards
•    Develop and analyse operational metrics to identify problem areas and work with impacted functions to implement fixes where applicable
•    Support Line Managers’ objectives, applying project management / business analysis skills as required

C. The Individual

•    Minimum 4 years experience in IT implementation roles and minimum 2 years in similar business improvement roles
•    Strong Business Analysis skills with systematic approach in problem solving?n Excellent interpersonal skills with effective persuading / selling to culturally diverse European group
•    Extensive Project Management Experience using formal Project Management Methodology, i.e. Prince 2
•    Excellent written and oral communication skills
