Our position papers provide the occasion for you to defend how you might resolve an ethical dilemma dealing with a particular topic. Generally, your outline/paper contributes to our understanding and evaluation of appropriate moral reasons and actions in confronting a moral issue that is relevant and practical in our present world. The students will be evaluated on both their papers and the class presentation.
Your outline/paper of three to five pages (of about 250 words each), doubled-space typed, is to include the following topics: (1) an introduction a moral dilemma and its context; (2) a sense of your moral purpose; (3) the model of moral agency (contract or covenant) and (4) the ethical criteria (rights, duties, and virtues) that guide your understanding and evaluation of individual and collective moral responsibilities; (5) identify underlying values which drive competing moral arguments (6) clarify and weigh at least two competing resolutions of the dilemma above, in terms of their general moral principle, fact claim (s), and derived moral judgment; (7) explain and justify your position; and (8) your response to anticipated objections, aiming for the most cooperation (if) possible with your position.
