Film Analysis C.P. Paper on Daniel Boone
Project description
HI 325C The Frontier: Film Analysis C.P. Paper on Daniel Boone
Assignment
Gary Forman directed for the History Channel a 2001 documentary called Boone and Crockett: The Hunter Heroes. Watch in its entirety the first half of the film, which
addresses the life of Daniel Boone. This assignment does not require you to watch the second half of the film, on the life of David Crockett.
I have put a DVD of this film in the reserve folder for HI 325C at the Reinsch Library circulation desk. Students can get the DVD for two hours of viewing time within
the library (but cannot check the disc out of the library). You may also be able to find the film online (though it isnt available on Netflix).
For as many as 3 Class Participation points, write a complete response in essay format to the analytical questions below. A complete answer (about three pages, double
spaced) will provide many specific examples from the film, and perhaps a couple of short but key quotations.
Analytical Question: According to the film on Daniel Boone, how did Boones early experienceshis Pennsylvania upbringing, his participation in Braddocks campaignprepare
him for success as an explorer, hunter, and scout in Kentucky? What skills and tools did Boone and the long hunters use to survive in the wilderness? What personal
losses did Boone suffer in his struggle to tame Kentucky? What are some examples of Boones leadership in the settlement of Kentucky and its defense during the
Revolution?
Please note that this assignment, like any particular assignment for Class Participation, is optionaljust one of several ways to earn CP points. By helping you to
visualize people, things, and events related in Filsons book on Boone, the analysis of this film may prove useful as preparation for your analysis of Boone for the big
paper in this course.
