Film analysis presentations

Film analysis presentations

1000 word presentation with added powerpoint…

The other major component of the assessment for your weekly performance is the Film Analysis Presentation. Each student will do a presentation in their tutorial group or post one on the MySCU platform. In line with the collaborative nature of filmmaking I would like people to do this in pairs.

Decide upon a film that you both feel passionate about and try to convince your peers of its merits and/or faults. Choose a particular scene (no more than 5 minutes screen time) and analyse its use of film techniques as well as the film’s general themes/messages. Your reading(s) of the scene should be as carefully, imaginatively and engagingly expressed as possible. Try to apply some of the themes from the lecture series and Readings to your presentation (e.g. cinematography, editing, sound).

Students can utilise media texts of various kinds to complement or contest what they say. There will be one co-presentation per tutorial. Presentation schedules will be assigned in the first two weeks of the session and presentations will begin in Week 3. You are required to submit a reference list of sources accessed to complete this assessment task. It is also advisable to submit a draft proposal to your tutor the week before you are due to present.
