Film Review

PLEASE VERIFY THE CLASSICAL FILM BEFORE WRITING THE REVIEW:
Choose ONE of the following to address:
1. Choose a Hollywood film (it cannot be the same film you focused on in your film review)
from any period. Critically analyse ONE of the following in your chosen film:
2. Identify three characteristics of ‘Classical Hollywood’ cinema. Critically discuss how they
operate in one classical Hollywood film (including identifying why the film you chose is a
‘Classical Hollywood’ film).
3. Identify three characteristics of ‘New Hollywood’ cinema. Critically discuss in relation to one
New Hollywood film (including identifying why the film you chose is a ‘New Hollywood’
film).
In all cases, make sure you have seen the film you are talking about (often it is helpful to watch
the film several times) AND are engaging with scholarship about the film and/or topic.
For a piece of written work of this length and weighting, we expect you to put some effort into
researching your topic. The textbook and selected readings are just a starting place. The
university library has a very good collection of online journals and eBooks. We expect to see
some evidence of research within these sources as well. Learning the research process is a
critical part of what you should be learning throughout your university experience.
Please ensure you read all of the information about this assessment item in the ‘Course
Content’. If you have any questions about it, please email your Course Examiner sooner rather
than later. Please also note that requests for extensions must be received before the due date and
in writing.
Don’t forget
There is an extensive glossary of disciplinary terms at the back of one of your textbooks: Stadler
with McWilliam (2009). Please make use of it to learn – and use correctly – disciplinary terms.
Correct use of disciplinary terms will be part of what your essay is assessed on. CLICK HERE TO ORDER THIS ESSAY!!!!

Choosing Internet sources
We can not stress enough, how important it is that you are careful in choosing your sources. For academic purposes, there is a LOT of unsuitable material out there, and we expect you to be able to be discerning in this matter. For instance, Wikipedia and other online encyclopaedias are not considered appropriate resources at a tertiary level of study. A general rule of thumb is to use online journals that are contained in the library’s electronic data base (such as EBSCOhost). Internet material from academic institutions such as university and museum websites is also usually acceptable. In following these rules of thumb, you can generally be sure of the accuracy (and motives) of your sources. If you have any queries regarding the use of internet material, contact your lecturer for further guidance. CLICK HERE TO ORDER THIS ESSAY!!!!
Assessment of essays
All essays returned to you will have comments written on them. These are meant to be constructive and are made to point out errors and areas where improvements could be made. The comments are designed to enable you to improve both the structure and content of your essays, which will improve your marks.
The comments made will explain why you got the mark you did. They are, therefore, usually critical comments. You should consider these comments carefully, and try to understand why they were made. If you do not see the point, or want further comment, please take this matter up with whoever marked your essay, preferably via the course coordinator.
The following points will be noted particularly in marking essays:
Relevance to the topic set.
Organisation and effectiveness of argument, and proper use of discipline concepts and principles as outlined during the course of your reading.
Evidence of reading outside the set texts and accuracy of facts presented in the essay.
Originality – careful and critical thought about the topic, and use of illustrative material from independent reading and also, to some extent, from observation and experience. CLICK HERE TO ORDER THIS ESSAY!!!!
