Write an 8-page paper on the topic found on page 273. You may choose any film, play, novel, or video game except The Matrix. In your paper, you can include a brief summary of the work you’re discussing, but the bulk of your paper should be devoted to a philsophical analysis of the work.
Topic:
The core issues that metaphysics and epistemology are concerned with – Reality and Truth – are at the heart of life. In many ways our existence is framed and motivated by our ongoing efforts to answer the question “What is real?” and “What is true?” Because these questions are of such central significance, they are explored not just in philosophy but in other aspects of culture as well, including films, plays, and books. This project will give you an opportunity to bring a philosophical lens to some aspect go culture that addresses the themes of reality and truth. Select a film, play, or novel that you believe focuses on metaphysical and epistemological themes and write an essay that analyzes the work philosophically. Be sure to make reference too specific philosophers to structure your analysis. The following essay by Sonja Tanner, entitled “”Philosophy and the ‘ Desert of the Real'” focuses on the film The Matrix and engage unjust this sort of philosophical exploration, analyzing the film’s themes in terms of the ideas of Plato. Descartes, Berkeley, and Kant. These last two philosophers are covered in the next chapter.
