1) Class Project–If you take a look at the syllabus, there is a final research paper/presentation listed as 20% of your grade. Based on the class vote today, I am going to amend the syllabus that the biofuel/biomass project you are currently working on with your group will compose that 20% and you will NOT be doing a final research paper and project for this class. Here is how you will be graded for the project:

A)-Presentation: Present a 5-7 minute sales pitch in front of the class

You will need to explain what type of biomass you will use and why (1 points)
You will need to explain how you plan to make energy from the biomass you chose(1 points)
You will need to explain how your business is different than others that already exist (1 points)
You will need to explain how you propose to make your business profitable (1 points)
You will need to explain who your competitors are and how you plan to beat them (1 points)
You will need to deliver a well organized, logical presentation that also conveys enthusiasm for your business idea (5 points)
B-Paper: 6pts Develop a detailed 1-2 page business plan (TO BE DONE AS A GROUP) DUE 4/26/14

Your 1-2 page business plan will be the most important part of your business proposal. It will be
worth 60 points. You will receive 10 point for following the guidelines for each section of the business
plan (Business Name, Business Concept, Business Market, and Financials) and you will receive 10 points if you business uses some realistic source of biomass for energy and 10 points for proposing a business
idea that does not already exist.

4pts Project reflection paper 1-2 pages (TO BE DONE INDIVIDUALLY) DUE 4/26/14
Please reflect on the following questions:
– From working on this project, what did you learn about the diversity of processes and inputs that can be used to make biofuel or biomass energy? Which projects from the class did you think were the most innovative? Why?

– After working on this project, how feasible do you think your teams concept is? If implemented in real life, do you think the concept could be a profitable business? Why or why not?

– What were some of the challenges you and your team encountered in working on this project? Were you able to over come those challenges? How?

-Based on your project, what sorts of opportunities exist for companies similar to what you and your team conceived? What sorts of challenges exist for companies similar to what you and your team came up with.
