Final Reflection for 308

Final Reflection for 308

Below are three directives based on our class discussions, assignments, research and readings.

Write a critically perceptive 2-to-4 page reflective statement in response to one of these prompts. Your aim is to produce an insightful and engaging piece of writing that is written in an economical but precise style. The main purpose is to communicate your thoughts and reflections on your work in ENGL 308 clearly and efficiently. How you choose to focus, frame and/or contextualize your statement will to a great degree determine its effectiveness.
Since is the course final, I will not look at or respond to any drafts or outlines. This assignment is meant to measure your own ability to analyze an assignment/prompt, make decisions, perform critical thinking and brainstorming, organize your thoughts, compose drafts, engage in editing and revision, and finalize the piece for submission. However, I do encourage you to engage in peer review as you go through the drafting process.
I am looking for you to demonstrate your ability to provide critical analysis of writing and design tasks, assess your own strengths and weaknesses and communicate in a clear and professional style.

Prompts (Choose ONE to respond to)

1 –An important part of professional culture is the ability to self-assess or self-critique. Provide a statement in which you analyze your professional conduct in ENGL 308, taking into account issues like attendance, writing and design skills, drafting, group cooperation, public speaking, accountability, communication with peers and instructor, and leadership. What are your strongest areas as a professional worker and communicator? How did those strengths aid you during the semester in ENGL 308? What are areas in which you still require growth and development? How did these areas hinder or complicate your success in the course this semester? Provide specific examples. Provide your assessment with integrity and honesty.

2 – You came into this course with your own academic history and your own professional goals. People enter into careers and fields for various reasons. What about yours? We can assume that you’ve chosen your major/professional field because you see it asbeing important to the workings of American culture in some way. What about this field of study do you have such a strong stake in? How does it contribute to the social, cultural, technological and/or political realities of the American project? Compose a statement in which you outline your arguments for the cultural significance of this field and explain how and why you feel that it involves, impacts, implicates or otherwise concerns you as an individual. What issues are involved in this kind of work? What about the work entices or enlivens you personally? What’s at stake for you in this work? How might it impact how you live, how you think, how you feel or how you pursue your goals and ambitions?

3 –Take any professional or business website and perform a total rhetorical analysis of it. Explain why you feel that the website and its contents reflect a successful or unsuccessful sense of design. Use the design strategies from our readings and discussions to evaluate the website. Think about audience and purpose. Think about organization and hierarchy of information. Think about the values/attitudes/lifestyle reflected by the website. Be opinionated and analytical. Cite specific examples from the site as support for your analysis. Include a link to the site.
