Final

In your Final for this class, you will play the role of expert New Testament interpreter! Please design your Final paper according to the following format and below listed section titles.

1. (Pages 1-3) Pages 1-3 will contain all of your notes and research through OQIs and external research. Google your ideas, go to a library, ask a priest or pastor, expert. I want to see how you are working through the observation, question, and implication process, as well as how well you are able to gather outside research. Make sure you tell me something on paper about what you found and WHERE YOU FOUND IT IF IT IS EXTERNAL TO THE NEW TESTAMENT.

2. (Page 4) Page 4 will place you as the interpreter of this text. Tell me what you think this text is teaching and then support it with the most compelling evidence from pages 1-3. Make sure that there is textual support, and then move to external support.

3. (Page 5) Page 5 will make the important turn toward application. As powerful as a text may be in terms of meaning and implication, it is useless until applied to a specific context/problem/issue. Choose two relevant issues and apply your interpretation, briefly explaining in a total of 250 words how your interpretation makes a difference in the real world.

4. (Page 6) The New Testament is not a book within a vacuum. There are counter-claims that come from other religions. Part of proper New Testament study is evaluating what competing voices challenge the New Testament. Also, within Christianity, there are many ‘in house’ debates. Page 6 will be your opportunity to assess and describe briefly in 300 words total, two counter-claims to your interpretation.

5. (Pages 7-8) Pages 7-8 will encompass what personal impact this text had on your own life. Share what impact this text has on your life by answering some of the following questions (or your own questions): Exactly what is this text asking you to do? Exactly how is this text asking you to live differently? How has your discoveries challenged your assumptions? To where or in what new direction is this text inviting you to go? When is this text asking you to act? With whom is this text inviting you to associate /not associate?

3. Page 5: Application to the World
4. Page 6: Counter-Claims
5. Page 7-8: Personal Impact

Your text to analyze and interpret for your final paper: Romans 16.

Your question to answer in your paper: What does Romans 16 tell us about the role of women in early Christian leadership?

Here are two helpful videos. Make sure you watch them AFTER you have done your own OQIs.
