Your first submission will be a draft version of the site visit (30 points of assignment total).  This section does not need to include all of the supplementary research you will do on the religion you chose to explore.  The draft should include your experience at the actual site and be approximately 600-750 words

 

The site visit first draft is due by midnight on Saturday. The essay will be graded using the following rubric:

 

  • 40% – Content refers to the information in your paper.
  • Is it correct? Is it detailed? Do you demonstrate basic knowledge of the religious tradition? Is this knowledge evident in your description of the service? Do you present a clear thesis to give your writing focus and purpose?
  • 35% – Style refers to how that information is presented.
  • This includes the way the information is organized and language skills such as spelling, grammar, and proper sentence structure. Does your writing flow smoothly from one topic/paragraph to the next? Although you can use a first person narrative, try to use a formal vocabulary – DO NOT use contractions.
  • 25% – Research refers to the quality and quantity of your research.
  • You must use at least three academic sources. These can include interviews with people at the service. If you will be using websites, make sure they are from a reputable source (i.e. a professor, a scholar, or a professional organization). Remember to cite all outside information with in-text citations (use MLA format) and present a works cited page.
