GLOBAL ENTERTAINMENT- SPRING 2015

Course Project

For the course project you’re asked to conduct research individually on a topic related to global entertainment. You can select any topic provided that:

1) it is related to media entertainment (movies, TV series, music, etc.)
2) it crosses national/cultural borders.

For example, topics can be a specific piece of entertainment (a feature-length motion picture, a TV series etc.) or entertainment entities operating internationally (media conglomerates, TV channels, independents, etc.) or a case study in global entertainment. Please note that it cannot be the analysis of the media landscape of a specific country. The goal of the research is to connect these examples to the readings and lectures, by identifying their economic dimensions, or their cultural or political ones. You can utilize, if you want to, the same global entertainment examples you used for your class presentation.

In your paper, please provide:

1) a brief historical background
2) describe and analyze your topic
3) discuss how it relates to the issues discussed in class (for example, depending on your topic, cultural imperialism, narrative transparency, pop cosmopolitanism, soft power, specific business practices, etc.)
4) As you’re conducting research for your project, you should do some research on international communication and find some good academic sources.

***A one-paragraph synopsis of the project should be submitted for approval to your instructor first. (Please attached to me as draft 48 hours form now)

This project consist the presentation, please make sure your paper have clear thesis and organized contents flows. The final presentations will take place in the last two weeks of classes, and they must include visual aids and a short paper to turn in the last day of class

The course project is worth 150 points.
