The final project is a research project. You will be assigned a play or musical, and your assignment is to discover why that work has an important place in theatre history. Why is it important? Were the design elements groundbreaking? Did the director do something unique with this show? Did the production use some kind of groundbreaking technology? Did the writing challenge the social norms of the era in which it was written? Did this piece lead to a new genre of theatre work in some respect? . Do not just restate the plot of the piece or give me a Wikipedia entry; tell me why this piece is revered, and how it has changed the landscape of theatre in its own unique way. Be sure to address the direction of either the original production or of a significant production in the work’s history, as well as the design, the performances, etc. You must consult a minimum of four resources for this paper. Look at reviews for the production; original reviews of Broadway productions can be found on the New York Times website. Look at what critics said about the piece; and if it is a piece that is older than 10 years or so, look at what critics said about it initially as well as present critics – this might give you a huge insight into why the piece has endured.
