Haidt discusses altruism in several different sections of his book. What are the various hypotheses he puts forward with respect to the origins of altruism? Does he seem to come down definitively on the side of either nature or nurture? Do you think Haidt is optimistic or pessimistic about the possibility that humans will eventually be able to display altruism and other cooperative forms of interaction across the earth as a whole (as opposed to it being limited to small in-groups)?
