Handling analysis of a rear steered industrial vehicle
Task
An industrial loading vehicle is currently being designed. The vehicle will be used to transport a large mass from a manufacturing plant to a storage area. As the vehicles’ loading condition will change noticeably between the loaded and un-loaded conditions the vehicles’ handling characteristics need to be studied in both conditions. The payload will be attached to the front of the vehicle and the steering will control the rear wheels.
You are required to analyse the vehicles’ handling characteristics in both the un-loaded and loaded conditions. You should consider
The vehicles’ steady state path curvature, yaw rate and
lateral acceleration gains.
The vehicles’ stability response to perturbations over 4 velocities for each case.
In order to achieve this you will need to develop a suitable linear two degree of
freedom dynamic model of the vehicle.
