HAS TO BE A PSYCHOLOGY MOVIE

Watch a movie that deals in some way with adult human development. There are many movies out there that deal with topics of great interest to people interested in adult human development. Movies, for example, deal with loss, aging, becoming a parent, trauma, etc. The report should be 2-5 double-spaced typewritten pages (1 inch margins, 12 pt font). It is not required, however you are welcome to cite other sources. Just make sure to include a reference page.  


This assignment is assessed in five ways:


      A.    Overview of the movie and the salient plot highlights (10 points). Make this a small part of your essay.


      B.    Analysis of an adult developmental issue portrayed in the movie (e.g. aging, culture, divorce, single parenthood, violence), discussed in class or in the textbook (pick an issue from chapter 10 and beyond) (10 points).


      C.    Select one developmental theory or body of research related to that issue (e.g., Erikson, Big Five, Dementia, Selective Optimization) and explain. The theory doesn’t have to be from the adult chapters – just apply it to your adult developmental issue (10 points).


      D. Describe whether the research presented in the book is in line with how the issue is depicted in the movie. Provide some concluding comments regarding this particular issue. (10 points)


      E.    Quality of writing (10 points).





      As always, plagiarism is not tolerated and will be penalized by receiving 0 points on the test and possible expulsion from the class. Papers are due at 8 a.m. on Wednesday 12/4.
