Students will summarize and discuss current examples of sociological theories related to healthcare-related situations by interviewing a person from one the following situations:
A. Someone age 75 years old or older
B. A retired nurse
C. Someone who received medical treatment at the VA
Generate a 2-3 page paper, using APA-6 format (double spaced, 10-12 font) in narrative form concerning the information gathered. For situations A and B, discuss how health care has changed over time, what perpetrated the changes, and the advantages and disadvantages of the changes. For situations C, discuss the benefits and problems encountered while obtaining medical care and the bureaucracy experienced. For all situations (A-C), discuss the cultural underpinnings of medical care, how culture can affect care given and received, and which theoretical perspective (Functional, Conflict, Interactionist) best explains the experience your interviewee disclosed.
