Competency 712.3.2: Impact of Nursing Decisions on Financing of Healthcare – The graduate understands the impact fiscal management and financial decisions have on nursing decisions.

Objective 712.3.2-09: Develop a sample budget.
Given:

Nursing has a long history of promoting healthy lifestyles. Nurses are at the forefront of activities to promote health, developing and implementing programs to improve or maintain the health of individuals, families, and communities. While it is important for these health promotion activities to be of high quality and accessible to all, they must also be cost effective.

Task:

Develop a sample budget for a health promotion activity by doing the following:

A. Define the problem the health promotion activity will address.

B. Using a table format, provide a basic budget that identifies the costs of implementing the health promotion activity.
1. Identify at least three fixed expenses.
2. Identify at least three variable expenses.
3. Identify at least three controllable expenses.
4. Identify at least three unrecoverable expenses if the activity is not implemented.

C. Compare the costs (fixed, variable, and controllable) of offering the health promotion activity to the benefits (i.e., a cost-benefit analysis).

D. Discuss if the health promotion activity is worth implementing based on your cost-benefit analysis from part C.

E. When you use sources, include all in-text citations and references in APA format.
