Height Questionnaire

Size matters!
In our society, being tall is a feature that has many advantages, especially for men. Taller men are healthier, better educated and even have prettier girlfriends than shorter men do (Feingold 1982; Hensley, 1993; Silventoinen et al., 1999). Taller men also typically occupy higher status jobs, climb
the hierarchy within organizations faster (Judge & Cable, 2004; Loh, 1993), and are more likely to hold a position of authority as a manager or supervisor (Gawley et al., 2009). These advantages are also present in social perception. Taller people are perceived as having higher status (Lindeman & Sundvik, 1994) and as
being more likely to be in a leadership position (Blaker et al., 2013). When people use nonverbal status cues to convey social dominance, they are perceived by others as being taller (Marsh et al., 2009). Men tend to overestimate their height (Bogaert & McCreary, 2011), which demonstrates that people know about these advantages and strive to be perceived as being tall. This project aims to examine whether (relatively) short stature influences interpersonal behavior and perception.

Research projects:
– Developing a body-image like scale for self-perception of height; students will conduct a test-retest of the scale (two survey measurements with the same participants; online)
This scale is called the Height Questionnaire.

– Results with Cronbach’s Alpha, factor analysis and (test-retest) reliability of the height questionnaire
– Discussion a lot of room for creativity and relevance to previous research and the current one.

Right now the research is still ongoing and the 2nd measurement is still incomplete so the reliability can’t be measured yet. But the introduction and sections of the method can be made.
