Histories of New France in Word and Image
Five
Two-Page Thought Papers (50 points)
You will be assigned six,
two-page thought papers throughout the semester; you must complete five of them. They are intended to encourage you to think about a particular issue and to generate class discussion. The assignment will be distributed the class period before it is due; for example, if it is due on Tuesday it will be assigned the preceding Thursday. The days in which thought papers are due are marked with a “*.” If for some reason you are unable to attend class or you misplace the assignment, it will be posted on Blackboard. Thought papers should be typed and handed in at the end of class. They will not be graded, but will be read and given an “8”, “9”, or “10”.
PS: The paper#1 I did by myself, and my writing skill is not really good, so I
used basic words and simple sentences for my paper 1. For this paper #2 please write this paper in a simple style and easy for my teacher to understand, which means looks like same paper write the paper. Thanks.
what do write:
Read:
• Samuel de Champlain, The Voyages and Explorations of Samuel de Champlain, 1604-1616, Narrated by Himself, translated by
Annie Nettleton Bourne (New York, Allerton Book Co., 1922). (see attachment)
• Christina Burke, “
Collecting Lakota Histories: Wintercount Pictographs and Texts in Anthropological Archives,” American Indian Art, 26, no. 1 (2000): 82-89, 102-103.
• “Lakota Winter Counts: An Online Exhibition.” National Museum of Natural History. Smithsonian Institution. Accessed August 18, 2013. http://wintercounts.si.edu/
Then, compare Samuel De Champlain’s recitation of his voyages and explorations to Lakota winter counts. Identify and explain two similarities and two differences between these two historical genres.
