Historiography

A historiographical essay demonstrates the ways in which our understanding of a topic change with time, available sources, and viewpoints. Please read several key texts on the Allied Occupation of Japan, 1945-1952, and consider differences between them in a two page, double spaced write up.
Examples of historiography:

Roger Chapman. “Review of Molasky, Michael S., The American Occupation of Japan and Okinawa: Literature and Memory” H-US-Japan, H-Net Reviews. November, 2004.  URL: http://www.h-net.org/reviews/showrev.php?id=10000

Gluck, Carol ‘Entangled Illusions- Japanese and American Views of the Occupation.’ in Warren I. Cohen ed., New Frontiers in American-East Asian Relations. New York: Columbia University, 1983.

General texts on International History

Finney, Patrick ‘Palgrave Advances in International History’ Basingstoke: Palgrave Macmillan, 2005.

Trachtenberg, Marc, ‘The Craft of International History: a Guide to Method’ Princeton: Princeton University Press, 2006.
