Order Description

Write an essay engaging with the ideas of two different authors in regards to one particular issue (options provided below). This is not a standard thesis-driven paper, nor is it concerned with lengthy biographies or historical narratives. Your goal is to focus on what two different documents have to say about one particular issue. You will be injecting your opinion, not through commentaries on the particular subject, but your focusing on what you feel the principle or the most glaring commonalities or discrepancies between these documents. Only brief introductions of the work and its author are needed (best done in the introductory paragraph). You are welcome to comment upon your perspective on these contrasts/similarities, but be succinct.

Compare &/or contrast two documents in regards to their authors’ attitudes towards ONE of the following issues (between 1600-1850 AD). What specific issues do these authors address? How do these authors differ on the subject? Do they agree on any points?

1) Class and/or social hierarchies
2) Gender roles/expectations
3) Political authority (relationship between ruler and subject)
4) Slavery
5) Rights of workers (or lack thereof)

You may choose whichever documents from The Western Tradition you find fitting. You may be confronted with numerous possibilities, so choose which you feel are the clearest or most significant contrasts/similarities. Include a bibliography at the end.
