How media influences public opinion on smoking

Paper details:
“Write an ANALYTICAL ESSAY on the role played by media in influencing public opinion on an issue of your choice. Your essay must make primary reference to one significant representation and secondary reference to at least two other representations in media” I’ve chosen smoking as my topic, so i’d like to analyse how smoking can be portrayed as both a good and bad thing in various media (advertisements, tv/film, news), and how this portrayment affects the viewers feelings towards smoking. Media conventions should be discussed as much as possible in the essay as they are a focus for this task. An example is explaining how dark, harsh lighting and scary music in an advertisement can make a viewer perceive smoking as disgusting and terrifying, though a TV show or movie where the main character is dressed in a suit, with a backlight puff of smoking coming from his well groomed face, can make a viewer think smoking is chill and cool
