Here is some examples of student summery.
1-There are several issues that make Bellum have a valid point in proposing the hiring of four union leaders as directors in the Fenwick board of directors. Bellum points out that appointing the union leaders will reduce the yelling by the union for a seat on the board. The union’s agitation for higher wages will become a thing of the past since appointed directors will support all the board’s decision due to their small number.
Once the union gets a representation on the board, it will be very difficult for the same union officials to vote for the workers’ strike. Appointed union officials will have little influence in the board activities as exhibited by their voting rights. The board is considering giving the union four slots only as the way of buying the union to the board’s side. Immediately the union officials become part of the board, they will contribute on workers’ issues, but yield insignificant influence on final deliberations.
2-I personally believe that what Sarah Bellum wants to do is a great idea. By giving the union the opportunity to be on the board, she is not only pleasing them and their former requests, but she is also opening up the board to ideas that they may not have considered otherwise. Unfortunately, I feel that adding 4 Union members may be a little bit excessive. If the Union was asking for one seat and they randomly hand them four spots, they could possibly be offended by how excessive it seems. They will probably also ask why they are just now getting seats on the board if they had four seats lying around. If I were to do something similar to my company; I believe that I would only offer the Union two or three spots. Sarah said herself that probably only three Union members would contribute, so that is approximately how many spots I would offer. Why would you want to waste other spots if they will not contribute? If they only asked for one spot, four seems like too much, but two or three spots seems genuine with the interests of helping to benefit the union and the company.
3-I believe that Ms. Bellum said what she needed to say when directing Mr. Kelly.  I do not believe she was unprofessional in the email because in order to get your point across to the board, you must come off in a serious and stern manner.  I believe that by allowing union members to work on the board will decrease certain controversy within the corporation.  It will give the union members a sense of feeling that their questions and concerns are not going unnoticed.  Having four seats open may be difficult to agree upon, however I believe that two seats should be kept open to at least try this idea and to see if it will help their “depressed earnings” and “near-term” financial outlook.
