Order Description

In this essay, you are required to approach the understanding of some of the sociological concepts
presented in this unit, in a reflective way; that is, to write about these concepts from your social
perspective.
In the essays for Assessment 1 and Assessment 3, you used research material to produce an answer to
a question. In doing so, it was written from the perspective of the research material that you found in the
context of the question that posed.
In this essay, you will also use the readings from the learning material and other research material,
however; for this essay it is important that your life (social circumstances) and social identity form the
context for the essay. To do this;
? identify the key sociological characteristics that have made you the social individual that you are,
then imagine yourself in a different set of social circumstances
? explain how your experience/life would be different as a result of these different social
circumstances.
For example, you could imagine how your life and identity would be different if you grew up as a man
instead of a women (or vice versa); or if you were born in a country other than Australia and you
migrated to Australia when you were a teenager (or vice versa); or you grew up in a wealthy rather than
a working class family (or vice versa). To do this you need to understand and discuss the sociological
concepts and re-interpret them from the context of your experience to your new imagined social
circumstance. This gives you the opportunity to see the social world through another’s eyes. This may help to ground your understanding of sociology in a way that is not achieved through a purely academic
essay.
