Prior to completing this QSEN activity in your clinical site, please do the following:
1. Research what contraband means in psychiatric mental health clinical setting both in the hospital and community
2. Go to the Internet and research sample contraband policy and procedure.
WRITE-UP:
1. Use an APA cover page
2. Write a 1 page reflection of this activity incorporating the following key points:
A. Describe the contraband policy and procedure of the hospital/community placement.
B. Compare a sample contraband policy and procedure you found on the Internet.
C. What lessons did you learn from this activity and how is safety and patient centered competencies reflected on this
activity.
3. Use a reference page to incorporate your research (use of peer reviewed article) into this reflection.
Contraband policy at Kahi Mohala Behavioral Health policy lists methods so that all staff assures safety for patients,
visitors, and staff. All contraband identified as a potential danger is removed. The policy states that room searches and
patients’ belongings are searched twice a day. Body piercings are prohibited. A list of contraband items are provided and
organized by non-negotiable items; items permitted with staff supervision only and items in which patients may check out
and return after use (Kahi Mohala, 2012).
