In “Female Chauvinist Pigs,” Ariel Levy explores the ramifications when women gain power by taking on a “guy’s-eye view” (267).  Many of the women she discusses claim that it is empowering to think and behave like men, even when it might be disparaging to women. Using Levy’s ideas to consider the complexities of gender and empowerment, write a 3-4-page paper in which you define feminism by describing a particular issue it addresses.

Questions for brainstorming:

Are FCP’s feminists? What is Levy’s perspective? Is feminism defined in opposition to FCP’s? What are the goals of feminism? What is the role of class and race in Levy’s discussion? What are the issues raised in Levy’s essay?How does the issue you are exploring compare to the issues discussed by Levy?
