Integrative Literature Review: Osteoporosis and post-menopausal African-American women.

1. Identify key words and five year period. This will be the most current and be considered the ?current best practice? timeframe.
2. First check the Cochrane Database using your key words. If there is a systematic review on your exact topic your work may be obsolete.
3. Next search the databases using your key words. Narrow this search by defining dates. Remember our goal is to publish your Integrative Literature Review. I suggest using years 2008-2012 only. This is considered a substantial search (not exhaustive, but that is not what an ILR is about).
a. Go to Medline or PubMed and do an Advanced search
b. Do the same in CINAHL,
c. EBSCOhost, and
d. Proquest
e. Others if you think they can add to your search.

Problem or Issue
Describe in this section what the nature of the issue, problem, question, or outcome is that you wish to address. Where did you get the idea from or what is it based on? It should tie in to your agency that you will do your project at.

An integrative literature review (ILR) has the potential to show us something we might not know or generate new knowledge. When starting an ILR one will follow a very deliberate search strategy. This strategy will use limited dates to extract the best RECENT evidence to present to readers.

Describe why this problem or issue is significant. Include here at least six references from the scholarly literature that supports your position of why it is important. Be sure to all say what difference it will make for the profession. Be succinct but complete
Methodology

Write up your exact search strategy that you followed ? this is your methodology section.

Describe what you want to do by each of the following subheadings.
Setting
(describe where you want to do your project and why did you select this particular place.
Sample
If appropriate, describe the population you will use and why. How many, age, gender, and any other relevant characteristics should be included.)
Intervention
(Describe any intervention you might have and why. Include any design references as appropriate.
Conceptual Foundation
Describe the conceptual basis for your project. It might be a theory or it might be a model. Draw a picture of boxes and arrows to depict it as appropriate. Be sure to why you selected this model or theory by demonstrating how it matches up with what you want to do. This part of the abstract should reflect what you did for the second theory paper in NUR 731 this fall and you probably can just make that more succinct and put it here
Data Collection
Describe any data you will collect, how you will collect it, when, and what you will collect it with. Describe where you will keep and protect your data.)
Procedures
Describe a step by step sequence of what you will do.

Describe how you will analyze your data to answer your question and why you selected this particular method. You will need to include appropriate references here as well. One or two should suffice for now. If you are measuring a particular outcome be clear about how you will know the difference.
Limitations

Because no project is perfect, describe what things you know are weaknesses for your project outcomes. For example, what if you are unable to access all of the types of information that would help you know if your intervention was successful? This limitation would be included here. Another way to address this part of the abstract is to think about what you would do if you had an ideal situation for your project. You should try to have at least two limitations and this point and be able to tell why they are so.
