Guidelines for Presenting the First Case Study for MSS 608 International Law & Security

As discussed in the class, students will have to select case study on the use of force based on international law.
Students will have to select one case analyze it and write a short write up in the form of built pointes and presented by Friday, February 6, 2015.

You can choose any case where the use of force was applied using international law (The case should be different than the one handed out to the students earlier)

The write up should contain the following in the form of built pointes:

1. Summary of treaties:
1.1. Treaty of Westphalia.

1.2. Treaty of Peace and Amity.

1.3. Treaty of Versailles 1919.

1.4. Convent of the League of Nations.

1.5. The Treaty of Treaties. (The Treaty of Vienna)

1.6. United Nations Charter.

2. Summarize Joseph Naie Article on International Security in which he address the use of following form of power:

2.1. Soft Power.

2.2. Cultural Diplomacy.

2.3. Hard Power.

3. Study, analyze and present a case on international security of your choice where the use of force was applied by examining the following aspects of the case:

3.1. The Case historical backgrounds (Current History is a good source).

3.2. The Legal Judgment or Resolutions

3.3. Country Facet Sheet (Based on CIA Fact sheet at https://www.cia.gov/library/publications/the-world-factbook/ ).

3.4. Political Aspect of the dispute

3.5. Economic Aspect of the Dispute

3.6. Religious Aspect of the Dispute

3.7. Demographic, Ethnic and Social Aspect of the Dispute

3.8. Security Aspects of the dispute: Examine which aspects of security are relevant( One of these
3.8.1. Regime Security.

3.8.2. Military Security.

3.8.3. Environmental Security.

3.8.4. Economic Security.

3.8.5. Development and Security.

3.8.6. WMD.

3.8.7. Humanitarian Security.

3.8.8. Food Security

3.8.9. Health Security.
