Japanese Aesthetics
Paper instructions:
Write an
approximately 750-word (2 ½ page double-spaced) paper on the topic.
Papers longer than three pages will not be accepted. For references, you will be limited to using only Japanese Philosophy: A Sourcebook [JPS] (and any notes from class lectures). No other texts or webpages may be used as reference materials in writing these papers. Any paper violating this restriction will be graded as “0.”
(a) explain the topic as an issue in Japanese philosophy; is there something about the issue that is particularly “Japanese” in approach? If so, what? If not, why not? (b) describe clearly what the positions of the various thinkers are in relation to the issue; and (c) evaluate what you found interesting or puzzling in the topic and why—be specific.
