Part 1: Essential Questions (To be completed prior to going through the perspectives and resources)
Post your initial thoughts/responses to these questions on your journal entry before midnight on Monday.  Don’t worry about providing accurate and informed responses. What this activity does is capture your baseline understanding of the topics we will be examining for the week.  You will have an opportunity to return to these questions after you have read the assigned chapters and gone through the perspectives and resources provided for the week.  At that point, you will be able to provide more informed responses to the essential questions.  The purpose of these journals is to document your learning and they will contribute to your final reflection paper, which documents your overall key learning for this class.  Your response to each question should be no more than about 2-3 sentences.
Question 1:  What does it mean to be an effective teacher of diverse learners?  (For initial response and final journal entry).  Reflect on your own efficacy as a teacher of diverse learners.  What are your strengths and areas of challenge related to your efficacy with diverse learners? (For final journal entry only).
Question 2: What are important strategies for teachers who work with diverse learners?
Question 3: Describe what you would see in a culturally responsive classroom.
Question 4: What is equity pedagogy and why is it important?

Write a 3-5 page reflection that addresses the essential questions and captures what you learned through the text readings and the perspectives and resources. Your reflection should primarily be a reflection (see rubric) but it is essential that you interact with the readings and resources (integrate citations from the text and other readings and resources to support your reflection). Remember, per the rubric, you need to bring all of this to a practical level–identifying implications and practical applications for your professional work.
