Levels of radiation exposure, human and environmental damages.

The book referred to is (Barker, Holly. 2013. Bravo for the Marshallese: Regaining Control in a Post-Nuclear, Post-Colonial World. Second Edition. Belmont, CA: Wadsworth.)

1) In Chapters 6 and 7, Barker examines how the nuclear testing experience has changed the Marshallese language. What changes have taken place? How do some Marshallese people use their language to “resist” or cope with the challenges they face?

4) What is applied anthropology? How does Barker use the methods of applied anthropology to advocate for justice in the Marshall Islands case?

5) In Chapter 12, the final chapter of her book, Barker uses the term “structural violence” to describe what has happened to the Marshallese people. What does this term mean? In what ways have the Marshallese people faced structural violence? Do you agree that this is an appropriate description of the Marshallese case?
