Directions: Discuss the photographs found in Life magazine. What was Life and why did it feature photographs? What kinds of photographs were published and how were they displayed? Why do you think Life was so popular and what contributions did it make to photojournalism? You should cite specific examples of the photographs you discuss.

For this assignment, you must look at original issue of Life from 1938-1940. (You may not look at Life on microfilm or any issues that may be on the Web.) In examining Life, be sure to look at a variety of photographs, including those dealing with news, sports and entertainment. And be sure to look at examples of the magazine?s photo essays.
