PURPOSE: The purpose of this week’s Discussion Forum is to discuss favorite teachers and what we consider to be important caring teacher behaviors.
INSTRUCTIONS:
1. Read Week 11 lesson plan paying particular attention to the section on authentically caring teachers. You should also read the assigned article: Tosolt, B. (2010). Gender and race differences in middle school students’ perceptions of caring teacher behaviors. Multicultural Perspectives, 12(3), 145-151. What do students perceive as caring teacher behaviors?
2. Choose one of your favorite teachers—it can be a teacher from elementary school, middle school, high school, or college. What caring behaviors did this teacher exhibit? Why is this person your favorite teacher?
3. On BeachBoard under Discussions go to the Weekly Discussion Forum and find the topic under Week 11: Caring Teacher Behaviors. Click on this topic. You are to compose an entry where you describe your favorite teacher and his/her caring behaviors. In your posting you might compare your favorite teachers’ caring behaviors with those described in the weekly reading.
