MAGAZINE REVIEW

Assignment: Read through several different Ceramics magazines e.g. Ceramics Monthly, American Craft, Pottery Making Illustrated, Clay Times, then select one article to “review”. You can find some of these in the Citrus Library. This review should be your response to the article. Do not paraphrase the article or copy any of it.
Chose a magazine article that relates to you in some way and write a critique. The article can relate to the style of the pottery, the cultural background of the artist or a technique that you would like to investigate.
Why did you choose this article? When was the article written, what magazine did you chose, what other magazines did you looked through, how is the work made, glazed or finished, what are the historical/cultural references, where was it made, why was it made, can you make it, would you make it, if you were to make it how would you a. change the work, b. or glaze it, c. or color it, d. or texture it, e .or change the scale of it. Would you give this as a gift to somebody? If so who and why, who would you not give this to? Would you keep it for yourself? Have you considered buying a piece of this artists work? What is the price range? How was this work marketed? What are the historical and cultural references? Why was this object made? Are there spiritual, sacrificial, religious, or ceremonial, purposes or ideas conveyed through this artists work?
You do not have to answer any of these questions. These are just a few prompts to get you thinking. Your paper should be one to two pages in length, typed and double spaced with a font no larger than 14.
