Management and Product Analysis

Paper, Order, or Assignment Requirements

This is my final project of my class management strategy. This is a group project. We need to write about a company to run a product. The product you can see in this website https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_TWl_WRo26g. Our group had some meeting about it, the results of meeting you can see in file Final Project Assignment. I just need to do the part C of the project, A review of the company’s functional and business level strategies. So the whole paper should follow this topic.

Please add sources if you feel it is appropriate.

PLEASE COMPLETE PART C ONLY

MGT 495 – Final Project Assignment

MGT 495 is the capstone course for all business majors at the University of Nebraska-Kearney. As a result, students are prepared to take on the challenge of conducting a thorough business plan for a proposed business idea. Student teams will be formed by the instructor and students will be asked to select a business from a set of emerging business ideas provided by the instructor. The database of possible ideas is available in PDF form on Blackboard. Each idea may only be utilized by 1 group in the class. As soon as you have made your selection please e-mail Professor Messersmith at [email protected] to “reserve” the idea.

You will be required to thoroughly analyze the company which has been assigned to you and your team. Each team will prepare a comprehensive case analysis and present their findings in both a written report and an oral presentation. The written portion is due on 12/10 with team presentations taking place on 12/10 and 12/12. The analysis will be worth 150 points (100 points for the written analysis, 50 points for the team’s oral presentation, and 25 points for individual contributions as determined by peer review).

On October 1st you will be assigned to a team. This team will work together on the “Company Analysis” and subsequent in-class activities. This team will mimic many executive teams you find in business. When you have an assignment to do as a team, you are responsible for the timely delivery of your portion of the assignment, as well as the coordination of team activity. If at any point your team has a problem communicating, coordinating activities, or completing assignments on time, let the instructor know immediately. Ideally, each team will manage themselves in a productive and respectful manner; however, if necessary, I will call your team together and we will examine the issues. As part of the team projects, you and your team members will be asked to complete team assessments examining individual members’ strengths and weaknesses, and the impact of such on team performance (peer evaluation – similar to the 360 degree feedback method used in business). If, at any point during the semester, the team decides they can no longer work with you, they can “fire” you. As a result, you will be responsible for all incomplete assignments, and no additional time will be given for you to complete those items. You will essentially be asked to complete your own case analysis on a separate company yourself. As a result, please be considerate, professional, and strive to work well with your fellow team members.

Project Guidelines – Team “Company Analysis” Guidelines for Oral Presentation and Written Paper

Your final paper will need to be between 20-25 pages and shall include the following general information (do not feel limited to just this information).

  1. Introduce the reader to the company and its current situation. Set the stage by describing relevant characteristics (e.g., industry, vision, mission, objectives and goals.) In general, this section should review (not restate in its entirety) the company’s history, development, & growth.

  1. Outline a comprehensive SWOT analysis. Included in this analysis should be:

  1. A review of the company’s internal Strengths and Weaknesses. In particular, try to focus on examining the value functions of the business and identify the functions in which the company is currently strong and currently weak.

  1. A review of the external Opportunities and Threats. Of particular importance is Porter’s five forces model and the life cycle stage model. Factors from the general environment should also be considered.

  1. A brief financial analysis. Most of the businesses will be privately held, so students are expected to conduct a financial analysis of the industry and the market potential of the business.

  1. A review of the company’s functional and business level strategies

  1. Provide a clear and concise statement of the challenges you believe are most critical for the company.

  1. Generate alternatives and recommendations. Outline a list of strategic alternatives your team has developed to address the company’s key challenge(s). Present your final recommendation(s) and discuss how those recommendation(s) can address and/or alleviate the effects of the key company challenge(s). This discussion should also include a review of your implementation strategy and should leverage key financial metrics in demonstrating the logic for final decisions.

High quality oral presentations are expected. Presentations should be 13-15 minutes in length. Some of the criteria on which you will be evaluated include the following: 1. Organization of the presentation, 2. Professionalism of the presentation, 3. The use of visuals (handouts, Power Point, Overheads, videos, etc….), 4. Communication Skills, 5. Use of Time, and 6. Handling of Questions. The oral presentations of the “Company Analysis” will be videotaped. This is a requirement of the department for assessment purposes only, and videotaping will have no impact on your grade for the oral presentation. During your oral presentation you will dress in business professional attire (if you’re uncertain what that is, just ask me). The use of note cards is acceptable, as long as you do not read your entire presentation from the cards.   Each team member must participate in the oral presentation.

Hooversonline.com is a good source to consult while preparing your company analysis.

Yahoo Finance, MSN, Morningstar, and Forbes are all good sources for gathering this information.

In order to take advantage of the enhanced level of service, a campus computer must be utilized.
