Choose ONE ORGANISATION from the Following List and use this as the focus for your assignment.

Within the Assessment, there are TWO SECTIONS –

1) Individual
2) The Organisation:

Answer for section 1 in Essay Format.
Essay is to be 2500 words (+/- 10%)

Answer for section 2 in Report Format.
The report is to be 2500 words (+/- 10%)

Total Coursework will be 5000 words length accordingly

INSTRUCTIONS:

For this Assignment, you will firstly choose which Company you wish to focus on.

You will then base your further research on this Company to evaluate and apply the specific People Management problem/argument as identified in the Question within each relevant SECTION.

SECTION ONE: ESSAY ‘INDIVIDUAL AND TEAMS/GROUP’ (weighting 40%)

‘People value their individuality and enjoy the right of self expression. Membership of a group means giving up some of that personal identity. The real skill of management is therefore to make full use of people’s individuality for the mutual benefit of the group as a whole.’
(Mullins 2010 p306)

Consider this statement with regard to the Organisation you have chosen and detail how an effective manager may apply this advice.

Identify and discuss the particular challenges which may arise within the specifics of your chosen Organisation.

As a guide, your ESSAY may incorporate some of the following points:-

• Discuss the type of people who you consider may be most effective for the Organisation, describing and evaluating the relevant aspects.
• Assess the type of problems individuals may experience when negotiating with other people within, or externally involved with, the Organisation.
• Describe the various types of groups and teams that would be prevalent within the Organisation.
• Assess positive and negative elements of the appropriate group organisations and structures.
• Identify and evaluate the resultant impacts on the performance of the groups
• Evaluate the impact any conflict identified may have on the Organisation.
• Recommend resolutions and best practice approaches.

SECTION TWO: REPORT ‘THE ORGANISATION’
(weighting 40%)

‘There is significant debate between the functionalist (Managerial) and the constructivist (Academic) perspectives of Organisational Culture. However, it is globally recognised that managing culture is very important in achieving and retaining organisational success, therefore effective managers must appreciate how national and organisational cultures operate, and the way power and politics work in the fluid post modern company.’

Consider this statement with regard to the Organisation you have chosen and, in a Report format, detail what an effective manager needs to understand to follow this advice.

Identify and discuss the particular challenges which may arise within the specifics of your chosen Organisation.

As a guide, your REPORT may incorporate some of the following points:-

• Describe the Organisational Culture that exists in the Organisation and how it is demonstrated – both internally and externally.
• Discuss how this Culture is created and maintained by managers and people within the Organisation.
• Assess how National and Global Cultures may impact on the Organisation in terms of outputs and performance.
• Recommend best practice approaches for managers to enable a positive, effective Cultural climate.

You must consider throughout, all the areas that we have covered in the Module that impact on your particular argument. The following areas must be incorporated within your coursework:-

Personal attributes, including self, perception, personality styles, motivation etc. and Management processes and characteristics including a range of leadership styles, culture, diversity, group dynamics, team-working, communication, organisational stress, occupational stress and conflict.

You will source additional literature to aid your analysis further.

You will critically analyse relevant concepts and theories relating to each of the individual, group and organisational contexts.

You will then evaluate your findings and apply the various implications to the appropriate aspect.

You should then identify and develop proposals which may help to continue and improve best practice or resolve any people management problems identified.

You will present your Courseworks in an Academic Format – following all the formal conventions and Referencing in accord with the Harvard Referencing Style.
