Marketing in Society, Segmentation, & Positioning

Marketing in Society, Segmentation, & Positioning

Project description

Many of you will convey this week in response to the discussion board questions, that marketers/companies need to be ethical and do things that are socially responsbile. It seems most of the sentiment is companies should pay well, give workers good vacation time, not pollute the environment or posion the water systems with chemicals etc.

Yet, I haven’t read anything yet from our class discussing OUR ROLE in being socially responsible consumers. If we purchase products from someone who uses and abuses children are we not part of the problem? If we purchase products from companies that are poisoning the rivers and drinking water, aren’t we saying with our dollars that type of behavior is okay? What about inregard to pay? What if companies are paying terrible wages, providing very little benefits? If we shop there aren’t we saying that is okay?

Consider that it might make us uncomfortable but we need to give it some thought that companies work on incentives. If there is no incentive to pay well, or not poision the water, why would they do the right thing? How will we have change or expect a company to change its practices if their parking lots are full of cars? Thoughts?
