1. Why. according to Marx, does the ‘two-fold character of the commodity as’use-
value and value require a corresponding division in the labour producing commodities
between concrete labour and abstract labour? Why is it so important for Marx that
both use-value and value be objective? Describe the objectivity of each.

2. According to Marx, two different things are always going on at the same time
in the capitalist mode of production: the commodity contains both use-value and value;
the commodity is a product of both concrete labour and abstract labour; the exchange
process contains both simple circulation and capital; governed by the two different
purposes of the satisfaction of needs and wants and the unlimited accumulation of
capital. How do these instances of its double character help us to understand the
distinctiveness of the capitalist mode of production?
