I. Topic
For this assignment, you will write an essay that explains some of the “other” meanings/roles of food (beyond taste, energy, and survival). You may want to address the cultural aspects of food, the personal/social aspects of food, the historical aspects of food, the traditional aspects of food, or the familial aspects of food. For this assignment, you will use examples (use a good mix of summary, paraphrase, and direct quotations)

II. Methods/Structure for Writing an Exemplification Essay
1. One MAJOR point, lots of examples – in this scenario, your INTRODUCTION will broadly detail the role of food in people’s lives and will end with a THESIS that specifically addresses only ONE role that food plays in people’s lives (i.e. food as bonding mechanism).

The body paragraphs of the essay will focus on the text that shows that role.
