Project description
The research paper must be on media and the gender, specifically discussing gender stereotypes, sexual objectification, self-objectification and the negative

implications on women’s health. It must be on this because we did an outline and the topic has to remain the same.

Here is the prompt:
Final Research Paper Guidelines

You are to write a research paper on a topic related to and/or about womens health. The topic should either be something we did not directly cover in class, or should

go BEYOND the analysis we presented in course material. Be creative in your choice of topic! The purpose of this paper is for you to academically research and

critically analyze an issue of interest to you, using the concepts, perspectives, and feminist analysis strategies used throughout this course. You can refer to the

Feminist Strategies for Analysis of Womens Health. The final paper is not a simple report of facts and figures the assignment requires a rigorous analysis of an issue

that affects womens health which well-supported with scholarly/academic research. Of course, it is crucial that the paper is clearly written and well organized.

Format:

The Final Paper should be between 8 and 10 pages (not including works cited).
12-point Times New Roman or Arial, double-spaced, one-inch margins.

Note: If charts and/or graphs are necessary to your paper (this is rarely the case), please include them in appendix pages and not in-text. Charts and graphs will not

count towards the 8-10 pages of writing required for the final paper.

Grading:

GSIs will grade the final paper using the holistic grading rubric located on the lecture Ctools site. A more structured rubric is available to help guide you through

the paper and can be used as a check list to ensure you have included all the required components. Do not block your paper off into the rubric sections. Your paper

should flow from argument to argument and from paper component to paper component (i.e., no subtitles or sections).

Topic:

Your Final Paper must be on the same topic as your Outline, which was evaluated previously. The final paper should incorporate the feedback your GSI provided on your

outline. Thus, your thesis or arguments may evolve, but the paper will still be on the same topic. Please do not hesitate to contact your GSI or visit The Sweetland

Writing Center if you find yourself struggling with the process of writing for this assignment.

Sources:

Your final paper requires 5 academic, recent (within last 5 years) sources. If your GSI recommended changes in your sources based on information in your summary and

you are not using them, you should discuss this prior to turning in your paper. You can use classic or later references but should also have current ones to ensure

your literature review is thorough. If you have concerns about this point or are writing on a topic that requires older references be the primary source, or please

confirm this with your GSI prior to doing it. Also, if you want to include a non-academic source in addition to your 5 academic sources, you should discuss with your

GSI. You will most likely need more than 5 sources to support 8-10 pages of your arguments. Five academic sources is a minimum.

Additional Points:

-Keep in mind this is NOT a book report, your own supported analysis is needed in your arguments. Your sources should be used to support YOUR thesis and arguments!

-It is safe to assume, when writing this paper, that your audience has a basic understanding of the health topic that you are researching. However, you should spend

the majority of your time using the feminist strategies used in the course to convey your arguments with great depth and detail.

-Remember that sources are not simply supposed to provide you with data, they should be used to support your argument on a variety of levels. This means that your

sources should be carefully combed and evaluated for main arguments and weaknesses, and this should be discussed in the paper. It is NOT enough to simply pull a

statistic from a paper and plug it into your argument without understanding the larger context.

-No footnotes/endnotes will be allowed in this paper. In-text citations ONLY and they must be cited in APA format.

A range (90-100%): Your writing was clear and effective and included all of the necessary components of the research paper, as described by the assignment guidelines

and rubric: a complete thesis that addresses your topic and the groups or populations of women affected, thorough literature support that is relevant and skillfully

integrated into arguments, a clear presentation of arguments that are analytical and embody feminist perspectives, and a discussion of the topics relevance to womens

health. Further, your thesis has clear implications for womens health that are addressed throughout the paper which, in general, effectively answered our so what?

question in explaining why your topic is an important issue and one that deserves further attention. You have also followed the appropriate formatting guidelines:

incorporating at least 5 recent, academic sources with appropriate APA citations; a thoughtful conclusion that ties together main ideas; and the appropriate page

length and formatting (8-10 pages in 12 point Arial or Times New Roman font, with one-inch margins). Overall, your paper was feminist, convincing, thoughtful, and

scholarly in addressing a topic that concerns womens health outcomes.

B range (80-89%): The paper topic and thesis statement are both present and mostly clear, and go to some degree beyond the scope of lecture material. Arguments are

distinctly organized and support the thesis statement, and the flow of the arguments stays mostly focused and well-contained within the context of the paper topic.

Some grammatical or technical writing errors may be present, but are not overly distracting to the reader. Overall, this is a good paper that demonstrates student

effort and thoughtfulness; however the paper may have had one or more of the following issues: it did not excel above and beyond class material, it did not thoroughly

address connections to womens health throughout the paper, it did not critically engage with the feminist strategies of analysis in order to construct convincing

feminist arguments, it did not analyze rather than summarize when discussing academic sources, or it did not use scholarly sources (that is, sources from academic

books or journals). This paper is well done but demonstrated less theoretical flexibility and creativity than an A paper. Likewise, the writing style and technique may

be choppy or underdeveloped at times, but is still better than average. Given more effort and time, this paper could develop into an A paper.
