o    Choose an exam or other course requirement that you are preparing for, and discuss what you need to get out of studying in order to succeed on that exam (e.g., is it a multiple choice exam? Do you require deeper knowledge? Are there a lot of terms to memorize?)). Discuss 3 strategies you could use to improve your studying for this exam, how you plan to implement each strategy, and why each strategy is effective/how it has been demonstrated to improve performance

Paper Requirements:
•    You must choose a topic and register your choice on Connect no later than February 28th at 11:59 pm. No more than 45% of the class can choose any one option, so if you sign up close to the deadline you may not get your first choice. If you do not choose a topic, one will be assigned to you. If you do not write your paper on the topic you have registered on Connect, you will automatically lose 25% of your paper grade.
•    Must provide peer-reviewed references for arguments. Minimum of 6 peer-reviewed journal articles which were not discussed in class. You can also reference journal articles we discussed in class, but they do not count towards your minimum number.
o    Search the UBC library website for databases, then search for peer-reviewed articles. If you are unsure how to do this, see the library website, library staff, Janel or Michelle, or stay tuned for the in-class session
o    Non-peer-reviewed sources do not count. Wikipedia is not a peer-reviewed source. Do not use Google to find articles. The vast majority of Google hits will not be peer-reviewed, and using the library databases will make for a much more efficient search.
•    1200-1500 words (5-6 double spaced pages), not including title page or references. Michelle will stop grading if you exceed the limit.
•    Must be written in APA style
•    If you wish to have Janel review a draft and provide feedback, please come to office hours or make an appointment no later than June 3rd. After that date, drafts will not be reviewed. Emailed drafts will not be accepted for review.
•    A digital copy of your paper is due on March 20th at 11:59 pm. On Connect, access the “Applications of Memory Paper” folder and click on “Applications of Memory Paper Submission” link. Upload your paper in .doc, .docx, or .pdf format. If you submit in another format your paper will not be marked and will be considered late until an acceptable format has been uploaded. Your file name should include your student number and last name. Please follow the format lastname-studentnumber-w2014.doc. Failure to do so will result in a 5% deduction. Your paper must also be submitted to TurnItIn no later than March 20th at 11:59 pm. Any assignments turned in after 11:59 pm will be considered late and subject to a penalty of 10% per calendar day.
o    If you turn in copy on Connect but fail to submit to TurnItIn, or vice versa, you will still be penalized. Please set up your TurnItIn account early to make sure you don’t miss the deadline because of computer troubles.
o    If you run into trouble submitting through Connect, you may choose to submit a hard copy in class or to Janel’s mailbox instead. Papers submitted in hard copy will take longer to mark and will not receive extensive comments.
•    Your paper will be graded on the content, clarity of the writing, strength and relevance of your references, and adherence to APA style guidelines. The full rubric is available on Connect. Please consult it when writing your paper for an outline of what is expected. Grades will be available before your final exam.
