MGT 202 PRINCIPLES OF MANAGEMENT

Choose a well-known organization of your choice. Conduct some research on the organization to answer the following questions:
1.    What kind of structure(s) does the organization have? (Chapter 9)
2.    Does the structure support or inhibit the accomplishment of the organizational goals? (Chapter 9)
3.    What kind of culture does the organization have? (Chapter 3)
4.    What are the key characteristics of the culture? Does the culture appear to be strong or weak? (Chapter 3)
5.    Does the organization attract appropriate job applicants? (Chapter 10)
6.    Are job descriptions and job specifications clear? (Chapter 10)
7.    Does the organization effectively use work teams? (Chapter 10)
8.    How might a SWOT analysis be useful to this organization? (Chapter 8)

Find out who the CEO or the General Manager or an individual that has a great influence over the organization is and answer the questions below about that person:
9.    What is his vision and strategies that drive the organization to success? (Chapter 1, 8)
10.    What kind of decision styles does he have- Intuitive, rational etc. (Chapter 6)
11.    What is his problem solving approach? Does he follow the conventional steps of problem solving? (Chapter 6)
12.    His thinking style – Is it linear or non-linear, subjective or objective, analytical or intuitive? (Chapter 6)
13.    What are his skills– interpersonal, technical, conceptual other? (Chapter 1)
14.    What is his leadership or management style? (Chapter 16)
15.    Is he an effective leader? Does he have all the seven traits of a good leader (Exhibit 16.2). (Chapter 16)
All reports must be evidence based. Marks will be given for originality and authenticity of report, ability to answer all questions clearly and in a logical manager, proper use of in-text citations and references, i.e., supporting your report with facts (from websites, annual reports, articles etc.), proper use of figures and tables if needed, proper formatting (Cover page, table of contents, introduction, and a conclusion. (Check Marking Criteria)
The report will be due on the date announced by the instructor in class (either 13th or 14th week). You will need to submit both a hard copy and a soft copy of the report. The soft copy will be submitted via Moodle / Turnitin to check for plagiarism. Please make sure you use proper in-text citations and references. Any plagiarized reports will receive a ZERO grade.
The report should be about 4 – 6 pages long, 2.0 spacing, Microsoft word with font size 12 Times New Roman.
Penalty for late submission: 10% deductions for every single day.
