military leaders Patton
General Patton – Toxic Leader or
Maverick Leader – you decide
This week as we look at a very interesting General, it is important that you take a good look at the commander and use this chance to remove some of the mystique of this leader. You should also attempt to uncover some myths and perceptions you might already have of him. In this week’s assignment, you are tasked to review Patton during a particular battle and his use of Mission Command. As per this week’s lecture, the Army’s framework for
exercising mission command is the operations process; the commander’s activities during mission command and the operations process are Understand, Visual, Describe, and Direct along with Lead and Assess (DA, 2012, p.1). These are the items through which you are to analyze Patton during the Battle of Bastogne. Do not spend excess words describing Patton’s history in other battles, or at schools. This exercise is used to assess your ability to critically think and analyze material, thus you should spend your
limited words doing just that.
