It refers to many of the major elements of communication in the cinema, and the combinations through which they operate expressively.” (Gibbs, Mise-en-scène: Film Style and Interpretation, Wallflower Press, 2002) Please discuss this statement, with particular reference to the visual elements of mise-en-scène which help to signify genre of gothic horror in the film ‘The Others’ (Amenabar, 2001)
