Thesis-
The early 20th century and the construction of the Ballets Russes brought an avant-garde movement that revolutionized not only ballet, but various mediums of European

art. The liberating atheistic of choreographer Michel Fokine pioneered a movement of modernism with the premier of his ballet Le Spectre de la Rose in 1911. The

innovative dimensions in this ballet heroically challenged the minds of the audience through Fokine’s freeing choreography sparked a trend of ground breaking art.

Popular writer of the time, Gertrude Stein, was of the first to challenge writing in this modern form. Her book, Picasso, successfully broke boundaries of linearity

through the use of cubism and serpentine narrative. While Fokine reinvented romantic ballet, Stein disrupted linearity in writing. Both artists heroically reinvented

structure through the creation of their works and therefore successfully established their place in modernism.
