Background Information

Northumbria Engineering (NE) is an international company which develops engineering and technology products in all types of development, from corporate enterprises such as Opera Theatres, undersea tunnels, a complete portfolio of baseband processing software for wireless infrastructure and management information systems.

NE looks at every new initiative with a fresh perspective, no matter how big or small. The company supports partnership developments for its people, with its people and by its people; this approach is aimed at enabling, effective, efficient and creative approaches to producing new ideas and solutions.

The company is concerned that the rigorous processes required in managing projects are not enabling project managers to get the most out of their staff’s creative passions. They have approached the module tutor for CM0647 to see if the students can help research strategies that could be applied to their project management process that would help the project managers to generate take up of creative ideas from staff, whilst achieving project objectives, within time and budget.

Your Task

Your task is to:

  1. Recommend 3 strategies that would be beneficial to be adopted by NE project managers to support enabling team creativity within a project management setting…
  2. Suggest how these 3 strategies can be implemented by a project manager in a cost and time effective manner.

Guidance

  • The main focus of your discussion should be on project management rather than broad and deep creativity discussions.
  • Any strategies should be supported by literature.
  • The report should be written in an academic style that contains reasoned arguments backed up by published literature from reputable sources. Drawing solely upon your experience and opinions is not acceptable, but may be included if appropriate.
  • You are expected to provide a set of references, which are subsequently cited, in the report, as well as in the reference list at the back of your work. All sourcing of material should be correctly referenced.
  • Your report structure should be as follows;
  • introduction (background, structure of your report, overall conclusion),
  • findings (main discussions/body of your report), with appropriate subsections. Do not use “Findings” as a title.
  • conclusions/Recommendations (no new discussions should appear in your conclusions, all these conclusions should be drawn from the main body of your report)
  • Staff can provide formative feedback on your report.   All formative feedback can be sought through your seminar tutor during the seminar sessions, up-to Friday at the end of week 11. After that time no questions will be responded to via any communication channels. This is to encourage you to start you work early.
  • As with all reports all students will not reach the same conclusion as each other, therefore your work will be judged on the strength, logic, and quality of argument supported by evidence from literature.
