Article/Book Chapter Citation (APSA):

Brym, Robert. J. 2007. “Suicide Bombing.” In The Social Movements Reader: Cases and Concepts, ed.
Jeff Goodwin and James M. Jasper. Malden: Wiley-Blackwell.

Core Argument/Thesis:
The core argument and thesis of the “Suicide Bombing” paper is on that can be mistaken, although it is clear that the suicide bombings are and should be only conducted over land disputes. As we can see in the reference to the modern day society, there are several examples of warfront that can lead to major conflicts. However if Brym’s theory is correct than there is going to be a lot of suicide bombings going on in the modern world because this seems as if it is going to be going on for many decades to come. It is also important to analyze another person’s opinion so that when comparing it to your own it does not seem as strange. Other than the fact that he constantly tried to include several different aspects of history that will end up aiding the content for the article there was not much information to back up his opinion and for that the article was a little weak.
Literature Review [Identify the major works, and the arguments of each work that is cited by the author(s)]:
The literature review for this article was a little more difficult because it seemed as if there was something missing from the content and for that it was not as important to bring in literary works to help provide evidence for the opinions that Brym has been laying down for quite some time now. Although the only specific source that was mentioned was the New York Times and aside from that there were simply some political review documents and various campaign work. All in all Brym could have used a lot more literary sources because these topics needed to be a little more reinforced than they appeared to be. As far as the core arguments of the historical events is concerned, there was not much that could be done to help or prevent the fact that this author did not have the time to compile more sources to support his ideas. However, the information that was collected was enough to give some background information to the article.
Research Design [What method or research design does the author(s) develop as a way of testing their argument?]:
I feel that the only research design that is incorporated into this work is that fact that Brym has decided to break the main topic up into six “lessons” and a conclusion because it becomes easier to understand the main arguments that Brym is trying to implement among the new readers. The good thing about these subtopics is that they are easy to separate in order to comprehend more information and then we are able to piece the information back together so that we can finally understand the various parts of suicide bombing. Mainly he states that it is a battle over land that is not always involved in religion, he also says that it can be a planed event, like usual, or it can be a spontaneous one that tends to be shut down because the authorities are able to change or persuade the person to do something different instead of what is their planned outcome.
Data [What data and from which sources does the author(s) analyze?]:
The only real data that the author used that was able to be analyzed was the actual documented events that have occurred over history. Brym seems to use the same approach to research as did D’Emilio in the “Gay Liberation Movement” article because there was not many proper sources that were used to help from data to be used in this essay. However Brym does find the time to condense these real life events into information that can be dispersed into the several sections of the article that Brym decided to divide the article into. As in any political essay, I feel that is was very important that Brym decided to include several dates that can be compared to the historical events that are used to support and bring data to the topics of Suicide Bombing.
Conclusion [How does the author(s) structure their conclusion?]:
Brym strategically ends this analytical or rather informative essay by simply stating his opinion on the suicide bombing matters that are going on around the world by stating how this is all over the loss of territory. He then decides to touch upon the matters that are going on in present times, such as, the United States War on Terrorism, as well as the Palestinian-Israeli conflicts because deep down underneath the external shell there is a lot of built up tension that had come from long standing problems between these nations. At the same time it is important that Brym decided to conclude the essay like this so that there would be sufficient evidence to support his opinion. As we have been able to see, Brym has expressed his opinion throughout the entire essay, which although makes the article more personal, it also makes it seem as if there was not much research done in order to complete the article, as seen in the literature review.
