What did you notice about the teacher s disposition, demeanor, facial expressions? Did these benefit the student? If so, how? Also, how did the teacher connect to Ayah? How did she motivate this student to try her best and engage in the lesson at hand?

) The teacher really does do a good job of providing positive reinforcement and praise appropriate to this child s case. Why? What benefits come from that? What can happen if this is not presented to the students particularly within the exceptionalities population? Teachers must always be adequately prepared to teach and redirect and understand student needs and goals… Share your thoughts on this teacher s performance in these areas? What would you have added or not done?
2) A teacher truly has the power to change the trajectory of a child s educational career both for the positive and the negative! Never underestimate that power and always remember it when making decisions. As far as autistic children…there are varying degrees and levels. Some appear completely unaware and are not motivated to please the adults in their lives not fully understanding the purpose behind education. These students are typically learning life skills …caring for themselves, eating with utensils, tying their shoes, communicating, etc. These are more functional skills. I ve always held to the fact of explaining the why behind what students are learning. If you make the material applicable to their lives and they have an understanding as to why they need to take time to learn the material how it will affect them they are often more engaged in the unit at hand. If students don t see the relevancy many choose to disengage. What other ways can we as teachers keep students engaged in lessons?

4) In the video with Ally, she didn t speak loudly and her seemed be distracted by other things. Do you think this is a cause for the parents and teachers to think she has autism or another disorder. Maybe shes just shy, or curious, or something else. What other symptoms are associated with it, in her case?
