Objectives of the Minor Assessment;

The aim of the project is to assess the students’ ability to carry out consistent research
work and reflect on the materials collected. More specifically students are required to
show their acquired knowledge about of the variety of scale, complexity and type of the
modern organization and their core functional areas. Furthermore, the work is meant to
help students develop their analytic reading and writing skills for reports.
Description of the assignment This is an individual essay.
The students must discuss and analyse one of the following topics, making use also of
case studies:

How does planning in today’s organizations compare to planning twenty-five years
ago? Do you think planning becomes more important or less important in a world
where everything is changing quickly and crises are a regular part of organizational
life? Why?
Explain how company environment influences a company´s different departments
and functional areas?
Show how International Trade, Capital Market Flows and Foreign Direct Investment
can help in the success in the operation and growth of Multinational Enterprises.
Many western countries are experiencing a high rate of immigration; what is the
impact on companies’ strategies and performances?
How does government activity affect businesses? How can large companies and
Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), respectively, exploit this influence and/or
defend themselves from it? Do you see any ethical issues in that?
What factors inhibit / enhance a country’s efficiency / effectiveness in production?
With reference to a well-known company, explain why this company has either left
or stayed in the country.

Structure of the assignment
1. Cover page
Your name, course name, title of the project you are proposing
2. Introduction & Background
Introduction needs to explain the key concepts, state the objectives of the
assignment, focusing on key aspects of the topic you are considering. Provide
supporting evidence by referring to relevant literature.
3. Critical review of the academic literature
Building a case for your project by discussing what academic experts have written
and are writing about the issues that your topic relates to/brings into play/illustrate
(convince the reader that you are knowledgeable about the theoretical/analytical
implications of your topic and that your project is relevant and worthwhile).
4. Case Studies
Present and discuss in detail a case study you have searched to be able to answer
the topic’s question. Highlight specific solutions found.
5. Conclusions and suggestion for further developments
Draw conclusions from the literature review and from the case study you have
presented throughout the project.
6. References (using Harvard method)
Format
Individual content of the project should be 1,000 words (excluding bibliography) +/10%.
The project should be submitted electronically (PDF format), written in Arial 12 point font,
1,5 spaced, standard margins through Turnitin. Following, electronic submission, a paper
copy must also be submitted before the start of class.
Please do references using the Harvard system.

Projects are to be submitted Week 4. See Student Portal for details on submission date

Late Policy
For each day of delay you will lose 5% Marks points, for a maximum of 10 days (total
deduction of 50 points). If you submit after 10 days from the deadline you will receive a
mark of 0 (zero).
